About AMHSA
The Alberta Municipal Health and Safety Association (AMHSA) is an educational not-for-profit organization that promotes the knowledge of health, safety, and environment in the workplace. AMHSA was established in 1990, at the request of the Alberta Municipalities (previously AUMA) and Rural Municipalities of Alberta (previously AAMD&C).
Who are our members? Every town, village, municipal district, city, and specialized municipality in Alberta is a member of the association. Our funding comes primarily from a municipal levy collected by the Workers Compensation Board - Alberta.
With offices in Calgary and Sherwood Park, Alberta, AMHSA’s mandate is to provide meaningful health, safety, and environmental training and education programs to our members in a cost-effective manner.
In addition to providing training, AMHSA:
- Provides virtual or in-person instructor-led training and online, self-paced eLearning courses that are cost‑effective and accessible
- Acts as a Certifying Partner in the Partnerships In Injury Reduction (PIR) program
- Coordinates Safety Councils throughout the province
- Monitors and disseminates information on OHS legislation and government policies that impact our members
- Offers a variety of AMHSA Certification programs
- Employs knowledgeable staff and subject matter experts
While we primarily assist municipalities in their workplace health and safety efforts, other employers may join as associate members for an annual fee. For more information, please contact our offices.
AMHSA is certified as an EP Employer through ECO Canada and Respect in the Workplace Certified by the Respect Group. AMHSA is also a Certifying Partner in the Certificate of Recognition Program.
