AMHSA Updates

AMHSA is pleased to provide membership our Annual Member Survey that gathers valued insights and informs our short and long-term business priorities and evaluate our levels of customer service!

AMHSA Working Group Participation

The AMHSA COR Team continues to participate in the Complexity-Based Scalable Audit (CBSA) Working Group, in cooperation with the other Certifying Partners and the Government of Alberta – Partnerships. The Working Group is currently developing system requirements, questions, and guidelines for health and safety management system elements to be included in the scalable audit.

The CBSA Journey Map has again been revised, with the following major potential milestones:

Instrument Prototype: November 2024
Prototype Pilot: August - December 2025
Engagement Sessions: March - April 2026
Planning, standards, training: 2027
Go-Live: 2028

Previous information shared about the CBSA Working Group can be found in 2023 and 2024 AMHSA Newsletters and Auditor Updates (including background information about the modernization of COR plan which lead to the creation of the CBSA Working Group).

We will continue to communicate with our members and COR-holders as the initiative progresses.

HSPC – Professional Development Conference

(Formally known as CSSE)

PDC 2024 is a three-day event that brings together occupational health and safety professionals from across the country, and internationally, to challenge their thinking, enhance their effectiveness on the job, and develop strategic partnerships with their health and safety colleagues.

HSPC celebrated a major milestone of 75 years in the health and safety space.

AMHSA was a Sponsor and a tradeshow exhibitor at the PDC.

Rural First Responder Mental Health Support

First responders are subjected to upsetting, disturbing, difficult and sometimes traumatic incidents on a regular basis. That’s why a FREE, comprehensive, evidence-based mental health services program is available to fire and rescue, paramedics, emergency health care workers and police services personnel working in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in Alberta.

Government of Alberta OHS News

The GoA has announced a new OHS allowance on out-of-province first aid certificates that is in effect as of May 30, 2024.

New or updated resources and events are also available.

HEAT STRESS

Extreme heat can cause serious negative health impacts. From dehydration and heat exhaustion to heat stroke and death.

Even though a heat warning may have ended, heat illness may not peak until a few days after the end of extreme heat events. Continue to monitor yourself and others for signs of heat illness.

Avian Influenza in Domestic Birds

Avian influenza (AI), called “avian flu” or “bird flu,” is a contagious viral disease that affects the respiratory, digestive and/or nervous systems of many bird species, including domestic poultry and wild birds.

Some steps can be taken to reduce the risk of avian influenza.
