UPCOMING AUDITOR CERTIFICATION PROCESS CHANGES
Effective January 1, 2025, auditor candidates (new or expired) who provide proof of active auditor status with another Alberta CP must submit a qualification audit to AMHSA within 6 months of completing the Health and Safety Auditing course. Once the qualification audit is approved through AMHSA’s Quality Assurance process, the candidate will be granted status as an AMHSA certified auditor.

[Webinar] Protecting Our Future: Health, Safety and Employment Standards for Young Workers
Alberta OHS and Employment Standards are inviting young workers under 25 years old, their parents and employers to a free webinar where they can learn about their rights and responsibilities, their employers’ responsibilities, how to identify and control workplace hazards, and where to access helpful resources.

[Webinar] Employer Information Session
Small and medium-sized employers are invited to a free webinar where they can learn about tools, programs and important information for employers.
The session will include: information about the OHS Prevention Initiative, an overview of Alberta employment standards, information about the Certificate of Recognition (COR) and Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR) programs, and where to find provincials tools and resources from the OHS Resource Portal and Workforce Consultants.

Jasper wildfire recovery – OHS resource
Alberta OHS officers and technical staff continue to be present in the Municipality of Jasper to perform enforcement associated with high-risk operations during the wildfire recovery and rebuilding phase.
Alberta OHS will continue to monitor compliance with OHS legislation with the goal of preventing injury or occupational illness among workers and responders.
Resources on hazards related to fire, smoke, and rebuilding activities are available on the OHS Resource Portal.
Updates from the Rural Municipality of Alberta
The Rural Municipality of Alberta has issued their latest newsletter. Highlights include:
- The RMA’s Wildfire Working Group (WWG) discussed the wildfire recovery phase, discussing emergency preparedness and shared resources. A meeting summary is available here.
- The Rural Development Network has launched the ICEBREAK Speaker Series: Intercultural Connections & Experiences Building Reconciliation, Engagement, Awareness, and Knowledge.
- This year’s Building for Sustainability Symposium will be hosted from October 27-28 in Canmore, Alberta.
- Municipalities can participate in a Government of Alberta survey on sustainable nature management until November 7, 2024.
